Rivers.run provides comprehensive river information including water levels, water temperature, and more, utilizing data from over 12,000 gauges. This data is complemented with insights from experienced paddlers to offer valuable interpretations of river conditions and skill level recommendations.

The platform allows users to search for rivers based on various criteria such as GPS coordinates, water levels, skill requirements, name, ratings, user tags, and dam releases. This makes it efficient for paddlers to discover suitable whitewater or flatwater routes tailored to their preferences.

Moreover, rivers.run's maps are useful for locating rivers in specific regions and facilitating navigation. By clicking on any point on the map, users can access detailed information on river flow, temperature, and other relevant data. Additionally, the weather view feature provides real-time insights on rainfall patterns.

Currently, river flow data is collated from reputable sources like USGS (United States Geological Survey), NWS (National Weather Service), and the Meteorological Service of Canada, with plans for incorporating more gauge resources in the future.

This platform relies on crowd contributions for maintaining its database. Users are encouraged to participate in enhancing information accuracy by submitting updates or filling gaps related to their preferred rivers. Detailed instructions can be found on the FAQ page within the app.

It's worth noting that while Rivers.run is operable offline, an initial online connection is essential for downloading river information. Attempting to access the platform without this beforehand may lead to a temporary freeze at the launch screen due to the download process which is approximately 1MB in size and highly compressed.
